The project focused on the dissemination of scientific and technology-based solutions for integrated vegetable cultivation ,post harvest management technology and establishment of Litchi Orchards. The programme aimed to adopt scientific packages of practices by helping 1500 small and marginal and women farmers in block Ramkola,district Kushinagar.
- The key activities undertaken:
- Demo of scientific packages of practices at farm level like low tunnel poly house, vermi composting, INM and IPM
- Varietal evaluation and replacement of old varieties of vegetable crops.
- Onion farming in Kharif season
- Convergence with Govt Horticultural schemes.
- Establishment of Litchi orchards
- Varietal trials/ evaluation of turmeric
- Value addition in turmeric
- Outcomes
- Scientific packages of practices reduced 25-40% cost of cultivation..
- Nursery within low tunnel polyhouse ensured plant survival by 95 percent.
- The extension and dissemination services through 46 community institutions like Agro Services Centre (ASC), Farmer Field School (FFS) , Producer Groups and FPO have played critical role in scaling up the technologies and high yielding varieties of vegetables.
- Reduced the post harvest losses of perishable vegetable crops by adopting primary post harvest technologies..
- 1500 small and marginal and women farmers increased their income by 25-40%
